Hearing the call is one thing. Answering it is another.
In the last episode, we talked about how to recognize “The Call” (spoiler alert: it often looks like a crisis). But once you realize you are being called to a new level of life, a new battle begins.
This is the battle against your own ego.
Your ego loves safety. It loves predictability. And it will come up with very convincing, logical reasons why you cannot possibly step into the unknown right now.
Through my work with leaders and creatives, I have noticed three universal excuses that keep people stuck at the threshold.

Excuse #1: “I Need to Feel Ready”
This is especially common for high-achievers. You convince yourself you need one more certification, one more degree, or one more book before you are “qualified” to lead.
In the Gene Keys, this often plagues those with a Line 1 (The Investigator) or Line 2 (The Natural) profile.
- Line 1s crave a foundation of knowledge to feel safe, so they can over-study.
- Line 2s find things so easy they don’t value their own gifts, so they look for external paper to prove their worth.
The Reality Check: More information often makes you feel less ready because it exposes how much you don’t know. True wisdom only comes from embodiment—from doing the thing, not studying it.
Excuse #2: “I’m Waiting for Perfect Conditions”
This is the belief that you will make the change once things “calm down.” Once you have more time, more money, or after the holidays.
The Reality Check: Your lack of commitment to making a change is the very thing guaranteeing your conditions will never change. We end up living “Groundhog Day” because we are waiting for the external world to fix our internal state.
Note: There is a difference between an excuse and a genuine need for safety. If you are in survival mode, looking after yourself is the priority. But if you are safe and just uncomfortable? You are stalling.
Excuse #3: “I Need a Plan”
We hate uncertainty. We want the guarantee that if we start, we will arrive safely at the destination.
The Reality Check: If you look back at the best things that ever happened to you, did you plan them? Probably not. Life is infinite potential. If you demand certainty before you take a step, you are narrowing your potential down to what your mind can currently conceive.
Be, Do, Have
We need to flip the script. Most of us operate on Have -> Do -> Be: “Once I have the plan/money/time, I will do the work, and then I will be successful”.
The truth is Be -> Do -> Have: You must be the person first (embody the identity), then you will do the actions naturally, and then you will have the results.
The Solution: The Warrior Archetype
If you are stuck in these loops, you need to activate The Warrior.
The Warrior isn’t about violence; it is about decisiveness. The Warrior carries a sword designed to cut through the noise with one clean strike.
You don’t need a map. You need a commitment.
Ask yourself: What is the cause worth fighting for?
Find the thing that matters more to you than your fear. Then, take your sword and make one clean cut—one decision, one action—that tells the universe you are finally ready to move.

The Universal Patterns of Resistance
From my observations, there are three main reasons—see also: excuses—that someone will never accept the call or will delay for far too long. These excuses keep them stuck, small, and frustrated. We are going to talk about what these three specific reasons are in this episode, and how we can break through them.
I am hoping at this point that you are feeling a lot clearer about whether or not you have received a call recently. Maybe you can look back on past calls and realize, “Oh yeah, that’s what was happening at that time in my life where it felt like everything was falling apart”.
Identifying the call is a big deal. But what happens next? Next, we are faced with something far more challenging than hearing the call in the first place: building the courage to take action.
I have had the privilege of working with a lot of different people over the last ten years of self-employment. This gives me an incredible opportunity to spot patterns. Even though every single one of us is unique, we are also not unique because our challenges and obstacles follow a blueprint. When we peel back the layers, we find universal patterns built into us.
This is one of the reasons I love the Gene Keys so much. Once you look at your profile, you see that there are really six core wounds of humanity that we all grapple with. These wounds trigger our protective patterns and create the filters through which we see the world. But the nice thing is that because the real work falls into a specific number of categories, no one is so “special” that they are unfixable. In fact, none of us are broken. We just think we are broken.
The Mythic Journey
What we are going to be doing over the course of this podcast is speaking to these universal patterns so you can personalize them to your own situation.
However, a quick disclaimer: this podcast is a doorway. If you want to go deeper, I have recently created The Mythic Journey. This is a personalized map where I use your Gene Keys profile through the lens of the Hero’s Journey. I visualize it on a map for you, explaining where you are in the process and what needs to happen next.
I take you on a journey to weave a narrative about the patterns keeping you stuck and the gifts on the other side of those patterns. Our shadows—the parts of us we locked away to stay safe—actually hold our greatest gifts. If you are struggling to see what your “thing” is, know that it is often hidden within you, locked away with the shadow.
But for now, let’s dive into the three patterns I see playing out over and over again when people are standing on a threshold.
Excuse #1: Needing to Feel “Ready”
The first pattern is simple: Needing to feel ready.
You are waiting to take action because you think there is a point where you will feel a certain level of readiness. I see this constantly with clients who want to launch businesses or step out as thought leaders. They are waiting to feel like an expert—waiting to feel worthy of attention and praise—before they do the thing.
We have a problem here because no one ever truly feels this way.
I am ten years into my self-employment journey, and every single year I am made aware of all the things I still don’t know. Every time I discover a new system or modality, I have to go through the process of “beginner’s mind” again.
This “needing to feel ready” often shows up for people with a Line 1 (The Investigator) or Line 2 (The Natural) in their Gene Keys or Human Design profile.
- The Line 1 Challenge: The Line 1 loves knowledge. Understanding a topic gives them a sense of security. But there is a line we have to draw. You can learn from books and courses, but until you have embodied that knowledge through practice, more information can actually make you feel less capable.
- The Line 2 Challenge: The Line 2 is “The Natural.” Their gifts come so easily that they don’t recognize them as valuable. They think, “Isn’t this easy for everyone?”. They often look for external certifications to validate gifts they already possess.
If you are putting something off because you don’t feel ready, be brutally honest with yourself. The only way you will get validation that what you do is valuable is by putting it out into the world.
Excuse #2: Waiting for Perfect Conditions
Pattern number two requires discernment: Needing perfect conditions.
This is where you are waiting until you have more time, more money, or until the Christmas break. The trap here is that the reason the conditions of your life feel unappealing is because you haven’t made the changes you are supposed to be making. We end up on a hamster wheel, waiting for a moment to breathe, but never making the change that would give us that breath.
We need to look at the concept of Be, Do, Have versus Have, Do, Be.
Most people are waiting to HAVE the conditions (time/money) so they can DO the thing, and then finally BE the person they want to be. But change happens in reverse. We must first BE (embody the future self), which unlocks our ability to DO the actions, which naturally results in HAVING the results.
A Note on Survival Mode: There is a difference between an excuse and a legitimate reason. If you are in a season of survival—where your nervous system is activated and you feel unsafe—that is not the time to make drastic changes. That is a time for resourcing. You need to focus on internal stability and getting the right support system around you.
But looking after yourself does not mean doing nothing. It means getting to a place where you are calm in the eye of the storm. Once you are there, you can move from a “survival season” to an “adventure season”.
Excuse #3: The Addiction to Certainty
The third pattern is waiting for a detailed plan.
This gets to the root of being human: we do not enjoy uncertainty. Our fear-based minds convince us that uncertainty is dangerous. But if I asked you ten years ago what your plan was to get to exactly where you are today, could you tell me? Of course not.
We cannot plan every detail of our lives. In fact, most of the best things that ever happened to me were not planned—they happened as a result of other plans falling through.
If you are waiting for a perfect plan, you are stuck in the Creative Void. In the void, all potential exists, but because it is dark, we try to rush out of it by grabbing for certainty. We look for a coach or a roadmap to guarantee safety.
But there is a big difference between Clarity and Certainty.
- Certainty is an illusion your mind creates to try and control the future.
- Clarity is knowing what you need in this moment and what the very next step is.
I lived in my own creative void for too long because I thought I needed to see ten steps ahead. I wasted time and money building websites and creating content for a vision I didn’t fully have yet. It was only when I surrendered and admitted, “I don’t know where I’m going, I just know my North Star,” that the path revealed itself.
The Solution: Activating the Warrior Archetype
So, what do we do if we will never feel ready, never have perfect conditions, and never have a perfect plan?
We activate the Warrior Archetype.
Unlike the Hunter, who has blinkers on and is looking for a specific target, the Warrior is ready for battle because they have connected to a cause worth fighting for.
A Warrior fights for something or against something. They have a calling that overrides the fear. If you are struggling to take action, it is likely because your fear is louder than your purpose. You need to find something that makes you angry enough or excited enough to rise up.
The Symbol of the Sword The Warrior carries a sword. The sword represents decisiveness. You want to swing the sword once and make a clean cut.
My challenge to you is to get out of your head and make a choice. Manifestation requires three things:
- Intention
- Commitment
- Action
It does not need to be perfect action. It just needs to be a step that shows the universe you mean business.
Your Quest: What is the decision you are going to make? What is the first step you are going to take? Create radical accountability. If you want that accountability from me, send me a DM on Instagram and tell me what you are accepting the call for.
