Because whether or not you believe it right now (imposter syndrome's a bitch, huh?) - you have world-changing potential inside of you. And it would be a damn shame to put it to waste.
But I don't have to meet you to know that those dreams of doing something more with your life... Something meaningful that lights your soul on fire... Something that gets you the recognition (and compensation!) you deserve...
They're completely within reach.
Because that niggling feeling you get, deep, deep down (when imposter syndrome's not kicking your butt) - it knows better than you do. It knows that you're capable of doing the things you used to dream about. And it's not going to stop niggling until you start paying attention!
I didn’t realise it at the time, but eventually I saw the issue: I was a nobody! People only knew me while I was playing the role and even then, most didn’t know or care who I was off stage. And the handful of actors I saw who seemed to have things handed to them on a silver platter? Turns out it wasn’t that they were more “special” or talented than the rest of us — they’d simply done the work to build their own personal brands.
Years later when I became a freelance copywriter thinking all my problems would be solved (ha!), it didn't take me long to realise that this personal brand thing wasn't just for actors. The freelancers and entrepreneurs landing the dream clients, making the most money and attracting the best opportunities all had personal brands of their own.
I'll back up a bit. See, I was a professional actor before I became an entrepreneur. And I was in a very small percentage of actors in Australia who actually got to do what I love professionally. But the painful reality check came not long after landing my first job in a musical when I realised that most of us (performers) were replaceable. Seen as “just another number” to the producers.
Not something that just talked about what to do and how to do it... but also tackled the (arguably) tougher stuff aka the fact that building a personal brand can be terrifying at times.
Today that framework (The Magnetic Brand Blueprint) is at the core of everything I teach my clients – brilliant humans like you who are ready to do something more with their life + business, but thanks to endless ideas and possibilities, find themselves stuck in overwhelm.
I figured it out eventually, but I knew there had to be a simpler way. So using myself as the guinea pig and drawing on my years of experience building other peoples brands as a copywriter + brand strategist, I took it upon myself to create one. A framework to act as that roadmap I wished I'd had.
Because I had to do it the hard way. Learning through painful - and often, expensive - mistakes. Wasting tons of time and energy on things that I could have skipped altogether. And don't get me started on the emotional journey. Yikes.
Fear. Self-sabotage. Self-doubt. Imposter syndrome. Unrealistic expectations quickly followed by crushing disappointment. All because I had no one to guide me and no clue where I was supposed to be headed.
Hundreds of clients + students, 40k podcast downloads + 1M YouTube views later, it was time to rebrand my business to reflect my story, experience and vision for the future. Enter: Magnetic Brand Co
I was a great copywriter, but often found myself providing strategy + coaching because that was the root of my clients' struggles. So I finally make it official + launched The Personal Branding Project.
I was loving marketing so talked my way into a job at an ad agency. Hated the job but I knew I'd found "my thing" so took a leap of faith and quit to go freelance. Within a year, I was booked (and burnt) out.
While finding my way out of rock bottom, I discovered my creativity again and decided to write + produce a cabaret show called "Bombshell" which is when my obsession with branding begun.
During my "quarter life crisis" (divorce, life-threatening illness + bankruptcy, check, check check) I fell into real estate which sparked my interest in marketing. Turns out performing wasn't my only talent!
My first big audition led to my big break in the original Aussie cast of Jersey Boys. A huge achievement followed by a painful wake-up call that maybe my ultimate dream wasn't what I truly wanted.
And the key to giving anyone the best chance at success and creating a life on their terms. So we prioritise "teaching our clients to fish" rather than relying on us forever. And we partnered with One Girl, a NFP that harnesses the power of education to drive change for girls in Sierra Leone and Uganda.
Business is hard enough before dealing with newsfeeds full of highlight reels, manipulative tactics and only the top 1% of results being shared. So we're committed to being honest about what it takes, transparent about our own journey, and providing a safe space for entrepreneurs of all backgrounds to know they're not alone.
We deliver on our promises, lead by example and live our values. We're committed to ensuring our products, services + client experience are thoughtful, intentional and high quality. And we're equally intentional about who we work with - meaning we'll be honest if we don't believe someone is right for an offer.
We stand against against hate, racism+ bigotry and believe everyone deserves to be treated with respect and to feel included. Some ways we do this are by providing transcriptions for audio content, closed captioning for video content, respecting pronouns and gender identities, and providing products/services at a wide range of price points (including a TON of free content!)
